Ghana Cultural Immersion Tour 2026
with Kadodo Music
When? 2-23 January, 2026
Where? Fly into Accra and stay for a few days, with an excursion to beach community Kokrobite which used to be home to AMA (African Academy of Music and Art, created by legend Moustapha Tetteh Addy) and has a thriving cultural performance scene. Go to a second home base in the Volta Region, staying at an accomodation with beach access in the heartland of Ewe culture, where many members of our teaching and support crew hails from, visit Wli Falls, Tafi Atome Monkey Sanctuary and Kakum National Park, and then return to Accra for final days.
Who? This tour is organised by Ghanaian artist Robert Koffie Fugah, who resides in NZ. Teaching artists will be tour leaders Koffie Fugah and Agbeko DeSouza, as well as drummers and dancers from Kadodo Music GH, including drum teachers Stephen Morley ("Martey") and Michael Dogbe, and dance Teachers: Anastasia Apetor ("Aku"), Richard Akiti ("Jimmy"), Koffie Ladzepo ("Mawuli") and Yao Banini ("Edwin").
What to expect
~Approximately 4 hrs drum/dance/singing lessons per day on non-travelling days (2 hrs each at sunrise and sunset).
~Your own room or shared with partner/child/travel companion at no additional cost
~Comfortable accomodation with ensuite western stye bathroom
~Daily breakfast and dinner included
~Welcome ceremony & performances on arrival
~Naming ceremony where you receive your Ghanaian name
~Traditional African food - jollof rice, fish, meat, stews based with coconut/peanut/tomato, delicious tropical fruit. (Vegetarians can be accommodated).
~A lively time with a wonderful crew many of whom grew up with Koffie Fugah, all of whom care deeply about us having an amazing experience and who know how to get the party started.
~Music and dance infusing daily life, spontaneous experiences that give you an insight into local culture with our indigenous crew who can't wait to welcome you to the family!
~Friendships and connections created with artists and tour participants.
~Optional activities: hair braiding by local women, beach time, shopping at local arts and crafts markets. Other possibilities that come up as we go that tour participants are interested in can be organised time allowing in the programme, and may incur additional costs.
How much? Tour (3 weeks) is $5000 NZD. Extra costs: flights, visas, spending money, lunches.
